Depending on your hearing loss, lifestyle needs assessment, and ear anatomy - we will discuss the style options appropriate for you. Completely-in-the-Canal (IIC/CIC) hearing aids are the smallest style of hearing aid available and are custom formed to sit down in the ear canal invisible to others. In-the-Ear (ITC/ITE) hearing aids are also custom formed devices that sit in the ear, but may be slightly larger depending on your individual needs. Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) or behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids loop over the ear and have a small piece that anchors and directs the sound into the ear canal. We offer all styles of hearing aids at this clinic and look forward to finding the solution that is right for you.

Even though some hearing aids may look identical from the outside, they actually might have completely different capabilities based on their technology levels. The technology level is determined by the computer chip on the inside of the hearing aids. Higher levels of technology offer a higher fidelity of sound, more noise reduction features, and better performance overall. The more basic levels of technology can still be a great solution, but may not perform as well in complex listening environments or if you struggle to hear in background noise. The level of technology is something that is recommended by your Audiologist during your initial hearing evaluation.

Hearing aids now have the option to be rechargeable or battery powered. The rechargeable hearing aid solutions typically have an internal battery that is lithium-ion and are charged each night on a charging dock while you sleep. This solution can be nice for people who have poor dexterity or vision. The battery powered hearing aids take a zinc-air battery that is disposable and typically gets replaced about once a week.

Most hearing aids now have the option to be compatible with smart phones through Bluetooth technology. This technology allows the hearing aid user to listen to phone calls and audio from their smart phone directly through their hearing aids. Each hearing aid company offers an app to download on your smart phone, and can provide basic remote control functions for your hearing aids - like volume, or changing the way they manage background noise.
