Hearing Aid Care

  • Wear Consistently

Consistent hearing aid use can greatly impact the success you have with devices as well as increase neurocognitive function. We recommend wearing your hearing aids at least 8+ hours per day.

  • Battery Health

Keep your batteries in good shape. If you use rechargeable hearing aids, make sure they are plugged in every night and are properly inserted into the charger. If you have disposable batteries, make sure the battery compartment is dry and clean.

  • Red Right / Blue Left

Remember that the color indicators on the hearing aids depict which ear the hearing aid should go in. Red is always for the right ear and blue is always for the left ear.

  • Routine Maintenance

We recommend doing some cleaning at home. We can help you learn how to do cleanings at home, and provide you with the proper supplies. We also recommend coming in to have your hearing aids professionally serviced every 3 to 4 months.

  • Hearing Aid Storage

Keep your hearing aids stored in a dry and cool place. Make sure they are kept safe and out of reach from pets or children. If you have high moisture, you may want to consider a dryer kit to help reduce moisture issues.

  • Avoid Moisture

Try to keep your hearing aids dry. Just like other electronics, moisture can cause corrosion and degrade the device over time. Ask your Audiologist about getting a dryer kit if you are experiencing issues related to moisture.

  • Check your Hearing

If you are not hearing as well lately, there might be a change in your hearing. We recommend scheduling an audiogram if you perceive any changes in hearing sensitivity, tinnitus, or having new symptoms in your ears.

  • Have your ears checked for wax

If you have been experiencing feedback issues, decreased hearing sensitivity with hearing aids, or itchiness - We recommend having your Audiologist or PCP look in your ears to rule out ear wax buildup.

  • Hardware issues

You may need to have the hardware replaced on your devices if they are not working properly. You may need a replacement filter, receiver, dome, or other part. Bring your hearing aids in for this type of service with an Audiologist.

  • Proper Fit

A properly fitted hearing aid is also critical to get the maximum efficiency with the devices. If they are not properly inserted into the ears, you will not get the sound you need. If you are having issues with the hearing aids staying on the ears - schedule an appointment right away and we can help fix this type of issue.
